Information about the World's Sexiest Rock Band

As the idea for the Genitorturers belongs to Gen, the history of the band begins with her. Gen hails from Albuquerque (New Mexico) and cites early 80's hardcore bands (known for aggressive music with guttural vocals) among her influences. In high school she was involved with the hardcore punk movement and was in some punk bands, playing bass. At 17 Gen left Albuquerque and moved to Orlando (Florida) to pursue her college career. Being a pre-med and microbiology student, this new environment did not lend itself to much chance of creativity and Gen again turned to music to allow herself some form of creative outlet, running a radio show for four years and beginning the Genitorturers in 1986. Before the band became Gen's primary focus she worked as Transplant Coordinator with a Transplant program. Her job involved evaluating donor's medical histories, seeking consent from families and performing the surgical retreival procedures for human tissues for transplant and research.

Gen's concept of bringing the audience into the music and performance evolved into having permanent performers involved who aided her in presenting different elements of the show. For the '120 Days' album (1993), each segment of the show was more contained and a scene unto itself. This changed with 'Sin City' (1998), where the aim became to present a concept that would flow from start to finish. As it has become financially viable, sets have also become more elaborate and involved, allowing Gen to better present her ideas and concepts.

The Genitorturer's sound and lineup have evolved and changed as the years have passed. Once bassist and vocalist, Gen has long been exclusively dominant on vocals and leader of her troup of performers. David Vincent, husband to Gen and original bassist and vocalist of the death metal group Morbid Angel, first began playing with the Genitorturers in 1992 as a fill in live player when he was not touring with Morbid Angel. His voice can even be heard in the chorus of House of Shame on the '120 days' album.

In Gen's own words, "I personally feel that he [Dave] has contributed greatly to the success of this band through his superior Provided by Chris Chick level of musicianship & songwriting abilities and is reaching his potential as a player and songwriter which he felt to be impossible playing in a band literally "locked" into one very limited genre. It is simpleminded to think that such an evolution would water down or negate any of the great songs or performances that he contributed to with Morbid Angel.."

"To be honest there have been points along the way where he has helped to ensure that this band has literally kept going. In 1994 when a couple of old band members pulled some terrorist tactics by quitting days before a tour.. David, after being on tour in Europe non-stop for 2 months, learned the songs in 2 days, and helped hire another guitar player just to make the tour happen!" (Gen, 8-2000)

In 1996 David joined the band as a full time member and plays bass under the persona of Evil-D. In recent years he has also added a custom stand up bass from King Double Bass to his repertoire and plays both at live shows. Orignally a member of the band, the Crumbsuckers, Chains joined the Genitorturers ranks on guitar in 1995. He departed the band's ranks in late 2002, making way for the onslaught of Bizz to begin; continuing still.

After meeting Gen at an Atlanta boutique at which he worked, and later sending in tapes for the band's review, Racci Shay was hired in December of 1997 to man the drums and begin a host of legendary antics. The Sketchy One left the band in early 2001, playing with the band, Dope for a few years, and in 2006 joined the ranks of Wednesday 13. Angel met the band through Chains and took over on drums after Racci's departure. After completing various North American, European and Japanese tours with the band, Angel decided to part ways in 2005 and now keeps busy with various projects, including: Tinjen and Switched. The Fall 2005 US tour, saw the introduction of the newest member of the Genitorturers' lineup: Previously of the band Amen, the six foot six Joey Letz now wails behind his blood red, transparent drumkit. Joey will not disapoint those fans who have become used to enigmatic Genitorturers' drummers and is a sight to see at work.

Since their 1993 debut release, the band has been featured in various forms of media ranging from print; over 5000 pages thus far, including in 2004, articles in both Gene Simons' Tongue Magazine and 12 pages in the May 2004 issue of Hustler Magazine (the only multi-page spread ever with a rock band). Other print has included the Washington Post and L.A. Times through mainstream television shows such as Fox files, Hard Copy, HBO’s Real Sex, Playboy TV’s 'Sexcetera', Fox TV and VH-1. The E! Channel also did a feature in which they documented "the effect the band appears to be having on the rising scene of rock music and fashion in Tokyo. The feature likened the bands concert appearance in September 2000 to the effect that Madonna or KISS had on the music scene in years past. The online realm, particularly the highly popular Myspace, has garnered the band even more fans worldwide as they become exposed to the wonder of the Genitorturers.

Musically the band has caught the ear of Dean guitars who have created a custom signature bass guitar in honor of endorsee David Vincent, appropriately named the Evil D Demonator that is available in stores. Some of the band's endorsers include Dean Guitars, DDrum Drums, Ampeg, Crate Amps, King Double Bass, and Digitech Systems.

The Genitorturers have also toured extensively in the U.S., Europe and Japan, gathering devoted fans show by show who see that the band is not just about on stage antics, but rather combines a fast paced, hard hitting musical onslaught with a visual assault; a complete aural and visual experience. The latter part of 2006 will see the Genitorturers touring North America, returning to Europe for the second time in 2006 as well as shows in Australia. The band has also made various appearances at the famous European Wave Gothik Festival. So what does the future hold... get on board and enjoy the ride!
